Welcome to the World of Theater: New Manghods

Welcome to the World of Theater: New Manghods

Hi. Hi. Hello!

Besides everyone having an awesome talent of their own.  There are other things that I really admire about this company,  We have this so-called “Magulang-Manghod” relationship (and no not those INCEST types, haha) It’s more like those KAPATIRAN moments I had when I was in highschool. It’s where the 4th Year (Seniors) would be assigned to take care and guide the 1st Year (Freshmen) You know something like how a mother would welcome it’s newborn into the world? Something like that.

In Japan they would call this as SENPAI-KOUHAI
Senpai: Usually older than the Kouhai (Senior/Mentor)
Kouhai: Usually younger than the Senpai (Freshman/Protégé)

Back to the Magulang-Manghod part, Magulang means an older sibling while Manghod  is a younger sibling.
In our case, even if we’re not blood-related we call the ones who passed the auditions and the initiation our new Manghod.

I have been a manghod once and from my experience I would describe a manghod as…  Someone who is new to the world of theater, Someone who is eager to learn more about theater, Someone who wants a fresh start, Someone who wants to be guided, Someone who admires his/her magulang.
Now, being a Magulang isn’t as easy as you think. You can’t be called a magulang if you haven’t done anything to earn that. Being a magulang means that you are capable of teaching and guiding your manghods, You have a bit of proof that you have the right to teach a few things to your manghod and have great passion for what you teach and do but even as a magulang we are still on the process of learning and WE SHALL NEVER STOP LEARNING. 😀

Every year our theater company accepts new apprentices. So that means every magulang would have a new manghod assigned to them as well. (that is IF the apprentices pass)
The manghod and magulang’s first pair-up would be in this parade, for this year we had “DREAMS & NIGHTMARES” as our theme.
The new kiddoes would be welcomed to the world of theater, well in this case it would be something like Street Theater 🙂

BayaNiRizal: Mga Bagong Kabanata ng Noli at Fili

BayaNiRizal: Mga Bagong Kabanata ng Noli at Fili
Hi. Hi. Hello!

As I’ve told you in my “About Me section..
I am a lights designer and a member of  an awesome theater company the USA Little Theater. It’s actually thanks to them that I became a lights designer and now a Technical Director.  (But I still have a lot to learn though) Compared to those professional LD’s and TD’s. 🙂

Anywhoo, this post has been on the “draft” side for a while now..  ( 06-26-13 )  Well these photos right here were taken by me while I was lighting the show. (Thank god for Multitasking skills) Though, there were a lot of b-e-a-utiful scenes that I just wanted to shoot but since I was doing booth shooting and lighting I couldn’t possibly click the shutter every second. Haha. 😀

BayaNiRizal, Formerly known as Ciento Cincuenta—is a play-tribute to our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal on his 150th death anniversary—this was my first production as an official member of this University-Theater company. Though It’s still considered as a work-in-progress but out of all USALT‘s plays, this has been one of those whom I consider as my baby.  Besides being the lights designer, I’ve also acted as the anti-“Donya Victorina”, co-written one of the plays “Ibarra” and we (my fellow batchmates) collaborated with the “Magulangs” (senior members) to stage this production. This has been one of my proud moments as a member.

So, there are nine short-plays and each run features five selected plays, so as not to drag the audience. These photos are the recently staged short-plays ;  “Ibarra” ,  “Sisa” , “Kapitan Tiyago” ,  “Maria Clara” and “Miss Philippines” (Miss Philippines is another shortplay coming from another production in USALT’s : Eksena 5)

— Okaaaay enough with the “my-on-and-on-chibbles” ——
