Whale Shark Attraction in Oslob, Cebu

DCIM101GOPROG0801605.

Okay, so I’m getting mixed feelings about writing this one.Β  I guess this is how you feel when you don’t exactly know the point of your story? Should I make you feel like this one is a MUST-GO-TO attraction? or the other way around? (I’m afraid I might start something here but whatever this is just my opinion so I guess anything goes) PS : but please tell me what you think of this..

Okay so before this mixed feeling happened I was just so psyched about having Oslob in our itinerary for Cebu. I mean, swimming with whale sharks? that’s a big check in my bucket list! πŸ™‚

DCIM101GOPROG0781589.

But upon arriving in Barangay Tan-awan, I was not expecting a line of resorts to choose from so we just opted for the one in front of where our bus stopped. We immediately inquired for the prices and other things to do like rentals, food and stuff.

P3000 Scuba Diving with the whale sharks
P1000 Snorkeling with the whale sharks
P500 Watching the whale sharks from a boat
P500 Underwater Camera (It’s a FUJIFILM FinePix XP70 for those who doesn’t haveΒ  an underwater cam or want another source for your group photos then you can rent this)
We rented one and will show you the quality of the photo later.

After a short briefing, we went to our bangka. On the way to the snorkeling spot I saw a line of boats waiting for the whale sharks (maybe), I had this feeling that we were at those usual zoo’s where animals are only kept for the purpose of gaining profit. (Well, that’s how I felt)

Well, anyway we were only given 30 minutes to do whatever, part of that was waiting for the whale shark to come close so we could have our photo taken with them. I never expected the water to be that salty, we were floating up in seconds! (In this body, I could barely stay down. I felt like a buoy! Hah!) So it was a bit challenging for the photo part! All of us wore rash guards that was constantly trying to remove itself from our body, so eventually 50% of the photos were 50% nude. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Seeing and being close to a whale shark felt amazing! but why do I feel a bit sad about this? I saw how the fisherman would feed them a bucket of fish to get them closer to where they wanted them but doesn’t this feel wrong? I mean, aren’t they overfeeding them in that way? Are the nutrients in the fish that they feed equivalent to the fishes that they normally eat andΒ  supposed to be eating?

It’s a bit amazing how the whale sharks would just go up and eat those fishes near the bangka, but don’t they get hit by the bangka sometimes?Β  Is this really okay? I’ve seen & read blogs of people where they talk about how enchanting it is to be swimming and “touching” the whale sharks Β  –to– Β  blogs that says that this might break migration cycles, breeding and the natural ways of the whale sharks.

Sample photo of the OLYMPUS rented camera
Sample photo of the FUJIFILM FinePix XP70 camera that we rented. This wasΒ  taken by our guide. He held the rented camera the whole time. So that he could take our photos without borrowing the cam from us anymore. Though most of the shots were also blurry. PS: I am really hoping that the guys foot here isn’t stepping on the whale shark’s skin. (-__-)

Gaaah, this is confusing me but what do you guys think? (Opinions and facts about whale sharks are welcome) There will be no fighting in this page. Thank you so very very mucho. πŸ™‚

Okay, so that aside, I’ll let youΒ  see the rest of the photos πŸ™‚

30 mins was so damn fast to get those perfect shots that you wanted! I never felt so rushed in taking photos.Β  Even if we had 2 GOPROs w/ us (one was mine and the other was Bianca’s) plus 1 underwater FUJIFILM FinePix XP70 camera that we rented for our group shots was still stressful enough to take good photos because of the salty water that was lifting us up! So here’s what I’ve managed to save and enhance.

Out of a hundred photos here’s 2 of the only ‘good’ group photo I enhanced and could show you from the FUJIFILM FinePix XP70 that we rented from the resort.

The rest are from Kanjie my GOPRO HERO 4 SILVER.

Damires Hills @ Their 4th Anniversary

Gaah.. It’s really nice to see this resort improve as we visit! πŸ™‚
Last time, while I was fixing photos and Ron was doing his layers for the resort’s 4th anniversary poster we saw old photos of the resort and may I say that the place has really improved! From just the cottages to 2 big pools to (Kiddie&Adult) ziplines and trampolines! And this year.. they had just finished their ATV route!

This was supposed to be posted last year but due to some “weird events” this IS a super late upload. πŸ™‚
The last food that we tried last year was their Calamares and Lawas.
The Calamares was good but the LAWAS was the best! At first I didn’t know what it was because in our dialect LAWAS means BODY and I for one wasn’t comfortable eating a BODY (Hahaha) but joking aside… This was beyond my expectations!
This tasted like nilaga or bulalo but wasn’t nilaga or bulalo! (I have no idea how to explain it) When you go to Damires please do try this…

Since we were so full we decided to take a walk and see the view in one of the open cottages …

While we waited for all the Damires peeps to prepare for their get-together party we decided to.. TAKE OVER DAMIRES HILLS. (Nah, I’m just kidding, wahaha) We went around and saw this log near the pool and decided to have our picture taken with that log (I have no idea how to say this but yes a bit vain but not insane) but basically we just sat on the log. (Thanks a log! Log! ) Get it? (PUN INTENDED, so punny!) πŸ˜€ Anyway…

After our little photo shoot we saw some of the Damires crew setting up long tables and placing banana leaves on top of the tables. They told us that this was for tonight’s boodle fight. (PS. I have never seen a boodle fight table this long! Haha) πŸ™‚

Ron & I then accompanied Khlea to her place for her to change (see some of my failed jump shots *weight issues* here, later!) Back to our topic… Aah!…
So we went back to Damires and was just in time for the crew’s last game before dinner… “PALO-SEBO.
(Palo-Sebo: commonly played during Fiestas)
(Objective: to be the first person to reach the prize at the top of the pole)

It was really fun watching them, but what If girls were made to play this game? Hah! That would even be more exciting! Hahaha! πŸ˜€

Nothing beats eating with your bare hands! πŸ™‚
Belated Happy 4th Anniversary Damires Hills! πŸ™‚

Happy New Year! Belated Happy Holidays!

Last year was crazy… Great opportunities swallowed by my newly found frenemy.. “Depression” (and may I say.. Depression sucks! Thou shall not give in!) πŸ™‚

This year (finally!).. for the first time I have bought a planner! I have been visiting National Bookstore (several times) to decide on which planner I would buy. (Now I know how my friends feel when they get all giddy and all for a planner) from IT’S-JUST-A-PLANNER-to-IT’S-A-PLANNER! feeling. (Yes, that feeling!) I sit corrected. Haha.

I’m starting this year fresh, fit and clean. How about you guys?
I went to church with my mom, meditated, went to the gym to inquire about Circuit Training, changed my shower head.. Hmm what else? Hah! This year will be an amazing year! It should! It will be!

I’m thinking of keeping my hair light brown (whatever color this is) for the whole year or try other dyes for this year. Gaah, can’t wait to share with you more of Iloilo this year. Got lots of plans for my blog this year. This year, this year, THIS YEAR WILL BE A GOOD ONE! (Rastaman vibrations, yeah! Positive! Gotta have a good vibe!) πŸ™‚

Damires Hills (Tierra Verde)

Hey Hey Hey, as I’ve told you in my previous post Directions to Damires Hills. I’ll be posting the photos I shot in this resort.

So here we go… πŸ™‚

If you’re looking for a chance to get away from the city to collect your thoughts and go back with a much calmer version of yourself then I’d really recommend Damires Hills as a great solution for aΒ  great escape. Not to mention cheap rates for their rooms and open cottages.

Here are some of my shots for their daytime cottages.

As to Families, Lovers or Barkadas who just wants quality time with not much of those loud noise we hear in the city this is a great place for you. When we stayed here it was just them birds chirpin’ in the morning and crickets n’ frogs croaking in the evening ’twas just the perfect legit background music for reminiscing and warm convos..

We stayed at room Zinia in the new building, that roomΒ  will now and forever be my favorite room in Damires. Haha! Cozy room with a veranda at the back (same goes with all the rooms in the new building) Here are some of the rooms/balays..

Love the fact that they have Duyans in every open-cottage and in some areas (nostalgic)

This is where we ate dinner, overlooking the poolside.
(please click the photo if you want see the full resolution)

Hut

The next day I went over to where they grew their fruits.. They had Rambutan, Kapayas, Calamansi, Cabugao and Katumbal πŸ™‚

After Lunch, we tried the Ziplines and the Bunjee Trampoline. We also wanted to try the ATV but they were still rerouting the trail. (but will def’ try it next time!) πŸ™‚

Zipliners
With the Manong Tata and Albert in charge of Ziplines. πŸ™‚

Here’s Ron enjoying his weight and one fail photo of me trying to do a back flip in the trampoline. (yes, I am chubby but I am happy I did 3-5 flips or 2.. out of let’s just say several attempts. (I will be back, you tramp!) <– see what I did there? HAHA! Okay.. back to the photos..

Here’s a wide-shot of the overnight houses and open-cottages.

Wide shot for overnight houses
Wide shot for overnight houses/balays
Wide shot for open cottages
Wide shot for daytime/open cottages
We done
We done, we done, we done done done. πŸ™‚

Directions to Damires Hills (Tierra Verde)

A few weeks ago I was invited to take pictures of the resort for their 4th anniversary and the day of their anniversary.Β  So I called Ron out to go with me and stay the night at the resort along with my dear life partner Khlea who works there. (Hey bae! Hehe)

I will be posting the photos I took for Damires Hills on my “TRIPS TO JANIUAY” category (<– I will be inserting the link for the photos here later…)

Damires Hills is located at Brgy. Damires in Janiuay, Iloilo.
It’s just a 30-45 minute drive from the city.

There are 2 routes that I’ve driven through so far.. (curious if there are other routes I could take for fun! please comment or leave me a message if you’ve taken other routes besides these)

One is taking the road coming from Jaro Plaza off to follow the road to CPU (Central Philipppine University)Β  to Ungka terminal to Janiuay.

While the other is my current favorite..

From SM City, Diversion Road going to the Airport but before entering the gates of the airport there is this other road to the right that leads you to the road to CABATUAN, what’s nice about this route is since this road is near the airport you could see all the planes either taking off or landing a few miles away from you..
(plus the fields, ‘that’ one tree that looks like the tree from the “Wild thornberrys” and farm animals)
Seeing the runway is the best thing to see at night especially when a plane is landing.

This week was awesome, there was a plane about to land and it was just right above the pick-up truck that I was driving! We were too happy about it that we didn’t have the time to get our camera! Haha.
So yeah, try taking this route one time and you’ll know what I mean.

But for those who wants to ride a JEEP going to Janiuay, You could take a jeep in TAGBAK TERMINAL which costs around P28

FROM TAGBAK TERMINAL
The earliest jeep goes around 6:00 AM
The last jeep at aroundΒ  9:00 PM

FROM JANIUAY TO ILOILO
The earliest jeep goes around 4:30/5:00 AM
The last jeep at aroundΒ  6:00 PM

When you reach the plaza you could ask where to get a TRICYCLE going to Damires it’s not that far from the plaza and take you about 5 mins or less to go there. The Plete or FARE for the Trike is P20/person

Khlea told me that you could ride a jeep that goes to BADIANGAN because the jeep’s route passes by the gates of DAMIRES HILLS.
(But I haven’t ridden that one yet)
The Badiangan jeep costs around P30

HEY GUYS, I’M BACK!

I'm back!
Photo credits to Ron Matthews Espinosa <– See him on my BLOGROLL page! πŸ™‚

Hey-ho-hey guys! How have you guys been? (*put bags down, remove cap, brush back hair w/ right hand*) “I’M BAAAAAAAACK!” πŸ™‚ Sorry for the long inactivity guys! The past 8 months was just crazy.. A lot of things happened this year both good and bad. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions! TheΒ  day before valentines day my dad passed away… I have grieved and I have cried a river in my bed but I know that crying was not gonna bring daddy back. I’ve lost faith in Jesus the day he died (but I’ve still been praying that prayer before meals though <– this, I find really funny) as months passed without my “FAITH IN GOD” people have been pushing me to go to church and then one day I did (with my friends) and then booom, tears began to fall and I started crying heavily alone sitting in that wooden pew in church then there I thought to myself that maybe I have just been running away from the thought that my dad had left us to go to a better place and to stop feeling the pain that he has been feeling for the past years. My dad was a religious man, so religious that I used to call him “FATHER” like the real father of the church. (Haha) but seriously he was. He would always tell everybody to go to church on Sundays and to keep praying or just give a little one-on-one time with Jesus. I know he always wanted me to keep my faith so that whatever crazy things I face, I’ll always have god with me. but aaanyways, knowing dad, I know he’s happier now that he is with his creator. πŸ™‚ Okaaaay, EMO-ME is done now! Sorry for the 8 months of inactivity and I can’t wait to update y’all with all the GOOD things and events that is happening to me now! NEW LAYOUT! NEW CONTENT! I hope this makes it much easier for you guys to navigate on. (I am still working on some pages so It’ll be “UNDER-CONSTRUCTION” for now but I have placed linked-photo-posts on those pages, I swear I’m working on it! Haha) Update y’all very soon! Thanks for reading this post!Aenri (aah-yen-ree)

HAPPY 2014!
HAPPY 2014!

Sunburn through the window

Sunburn through the window..

As I’ve told you before I’ve gone to a theater camp outside of our city for 3 days.
On the way home we rode a non-air-conditioned bus. I sat by the window seat (I am a big sucker for window seats)
It was about 1pm when we headed back to the city, so yep, I already knew that it was going to be hot and I mean HOT.
Good thing the bus was going fast, so I thank the wind for keeping me alive inside the bus. Halfway home I fell asleep and one of my little manghodsΒ  in our group (alex) told me that there was this one time where my head was already outside the window. (Well thank you for telling me afterwards but you could have woken me up, you know.Β  Haha)

Anyway, when I woke up I was a bit shocked to see that “ze zun haz burnt my arm”Β
Well, I’ve “unpacked” my things already but it’s still on ze floor, till now.Β  (Lazy monkey)
I’ll be posting some of our photos during the theater camp in a bit.Β  πŸ˜€
